鶹ֱ & Lardner LLP partners Chris Babcock and Chris Converse are profiled as finalists for Texas Attorney of the Year in the Texas Lawyer article, “The Architects of Y’all Street Are Finalists for Texas Attorney of the Year.”
“When the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 29 in 2025, it did more than update the state’s corporate code,” Texas Lawyer writes. “It announced that Texas intended to compete seriously for the corporate franchise business that Delaware had held as a near-monopoly for a century. Behind that bill were two 鶹ֱ & Lardner attorneys who share a first name, a Dallas practice, and a conviction that Texas’s corporate law had finally caught up to its economy: Chris Babcock and Chris Converse.”
The article traces how Babcock and Converse helped shape and advocate the legislation, which was enacted in 2025 as part of Texas’ broader effort to compete for corporate charters. Texas Lawyer summarizes the pair’s work as a “rare kind of legal achievement.”
“They built the courtroom, the statute, and the client pipeline all at once, drafting what became SB 29, testifying for it in both chambers, defending it against national proxy advisors, and then guiding some of the most closely watched re-incorporations in the country, including Coinbase’s move from Delaware to Texas.”
A central theme of the story is the pair’s long-term vision of aligning Texas’ corporate laws with the state’s growing economy and business community. The article discusses how SB 29 complements other recent developments, including the launch of Texas’ specialized business court and the Texas Stock Exchange, all contributing to a more robust corporate framework in the state.
“It’s been one of the most rewarding things in my whole career,” Converse added.
